Over a century of service from Coalville staff
Staff at the Coalville store have chalked up more than 140 years of service between them.
Among the 24-strong team at Specsavers, 29 Belvoir Shopping Centre, Catherine Hawes, optical assistant, is the longest standing, having joined the store when it opened 21 years ago. She is closely followed by Paul Tucker, lab technician, whose career with Specsavers spans over 20 years. Karen Robinson, merchandiser, has also totted up an impressive 16 years at the store.
Most of the staff began their careers in optics at Specsavers and have received training and support to develop their careers. Hannah Graham, dispensing optician (DO), who has been at the store for eight years, gained her DO qualification with Specsavers. Jodie Dawson, store manager, who joined straight from school, and Sabrina Cawley-Clarke, optical assistant, are both currently qualified up to Cert 4 in their optical exams, while Gary Richards and Rebecca Brown, also optical assistants at the store, have gained Cert 3 qualifications.
The store has a long record of retaining staff, with many of the team members heading towards a decade of service. Kishan Mistry, dispensing optician, Vicky Toma and Leanne Wolfenden, both optical assistants, are celebrating their 10 years at Specsavers this year, while Zoe Williams, clinical assistant and administrator, has been there for seven.
Shailan Ruparelia, store director, explained the key reason behind the staff loyalty: ‘We are a really strong and supportive team, and everyone enjoys their job here. It’s important for us to develop our team and make sure they are progressing in their careers.
We pride ourselves on the quality and experience of our team, and I think this is really reflected in the fact that out of the 141 years of service, 126 of those are from 11 members of our optical team.
It’s a really wonderful achievement for our staff.’
