The determined and kind-hearted team at Stockport Specsaverss are out to prove they are a cut above as they line up their next charity challenge in aid of a former colleagues partner’s bid to beat cancer.
On Saturday July 30, Julie Chetwyn, an administrator at the store, will go under the clippers and have her hair shaved off as part of the team’s ongoing campaign in support of chef Dominic Bergin, who is hoping to raise £250,000 – which he prays will cure him of bowel cancer doctors told him was terminal.
Dominic, 34, who lives in Derby, is hoping a revolutionary new treatment available only in Germany can save his life so he can marry his fiancée, Robyn Orridge, who recently left her role at the Mersey Square opticians to care for him full time.
Julie says: ‘Many of the team are incredibly close to Robyn and were devastated to hear about Dominic’s illness.
‘Everyone has pulled together and we’re determined to raise as much as we possibly can.
‘I’m certainly nervous about shaving my head but I didn’t think twice given how important this is.
‘Please do join us in store on Saturday and if you can spare any donations, the team would be delighted.’
The store has already managed to raise £1,700 so far thanks to a recent raffle and a two day bake sale held earlier this month.
Store director, Carl Chadwick says ‘The team here are very proud of Julie for her hard work and dedication to help make a difference for this very worthy cause.’
