Road Safety Week

Specsavers in Cirencester is putting children’s safety in the frame as part of Road Safety Week (21-27 November).

The store is handing out reflective armbands to children in the local community on Saturday 26 November as part of the road safety initiative. The armbands act as a fluorescent tool that increases visibility when on the roads, especially important in the winter months.

Make the Brake Pledge

Children will also be able to ‘Make the Brake Pledge’, which is the theme of this year’s Road Safety Week, by detailing what they will be doing to make sure they are safe; such as wearing a helmet when cycling, or wearing reflective clothing when it’s dark.

A word from the store director

‘Road safety is such an important message at this time of the year, especially now that it’s dark so early,’ said store director Stuart Anglin. ‘The Cirencester Christmas light switch on is taking place on Saturday as well, so we thought this was a great opportunity to educate children and parents alike, and distribute the reflective bands.’

Make the Brake Pledge, is about six key things people can do to protect themselves and the people around them, and reduce emissions and pollution from vehicles. The six Brake Pledge points are: Slow, Sober, Secure, Silent, Sharp and Sustainable.
