The store in Ashington has made a significant donation of high visibility vests to Bishop’s Primary School.

Helping pupils be seen
Specsavers in Ashington donated a total of 500 vests to be used by pupils aged 3-11. These vests will keep the youngsters safer when walking to and from school and partaking in any group activities outside the school premises.

Katie Blakely, senior manager at the Ashington optician, said: ‘We are really happy to have supported the local primary school in the town with this donation. The vests will allow pupils to commute to and from school visibly.

‘As an opticians we want to take care of those in the community. When children are out and about safety is essential.’

Claire Marriot, Head of Josephine Butler Primary Campus, said: ‘We are extremely grateful for the generous donation from our local Specsavers. We are pleased that these vests can cover a third of the pupils at the school – with 1,500 children making us one of the largest primary schools in the country.

‘The pupils are thrilled with this donation and are proudly wearing the vests from our local Specsavers.’
