Charlie Cooley (8), a pupil from Ballyholme Primary School has won book vouchers courtesy of his local Specsavers store in Bloomfield Shopping Centre, Bangor.
Charlie read Arthur Ransome’s Swallows and Amazons, wrote a review and submitted it to NI4Kids magazine’s feature, The Reading Corner. Thanks to his star review, Charlie won £100 of book vouchers for his school, Ballyholme Primary, as well as a £10 book voucher to spend on his own new reading material.
Young reader review
Charlie’s review is the latest in the series of reviews from Primary School pupils across Northern Ireland, thanks to an initiative from Specsavers and NI4Kids to ensure children are enjoying reading. In his review, Charlie said: ‘My favourite bit of the book was when they saved Captain Flint because it was brave and very exciting; it made me feel like I was in the book myself!’
Andrea Ridway, store director at Specsavers Bangor in Bloomfield Shopping Centre met with Charlie to present him with his book vouchers. She commented: ‘We’re delighted to support this initiative, and ensure that kids in school are enjoying what they’re reading enough to write such fantastic reviews that are published in NI4Kids.
‘It was a pleasure to meet Charlie and hear how much he enjoyed reading Swallows and Amazons, I hope he gets to read and review many more books with his prize vouchers.’
