Newcastle eyecare experts have collected more than 4000 pairs of used and unwanted glasses from the residents to help improve access to eyecare services in developing nations.

The team from Specsavers Newcastle encouraged the community to donate to the scheme in aid of international sight charity Vision Aid Overseas.

Rachael Aiken, store director of Specsavers in Newcastle, said: ‘We’ve been overwhelmed by the response from residents. It’s wonderful that the sale of the reusable materials from these glasses will help create a positive effect on the lives of people less fortunate.’
