A Leamington Spa local has been chosen from thousands of proud glasses wearers as a finalist for Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year.
Caroline Smith, aged 61 from Leamington Spa, could follow in the footsteps of last year’s Award winner Shane Haron, and take home £10,000 while also having the chance to mingle with the stars at the annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards.
Glasses wearers across the UK and Republic of Ireland have been showing off their specs style by sharing their selfies online throughout the spring and summer.
Caroline was invited to visit her local Specsavers store in Leamington Spa to receive a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 glasses voucher.
‘I was thrilled to find out I’d been chosen as a regional finalist,’ explained Caroline. ‘This is my third time entering so I guess it’s third time’s the charm! I absolutely love my glasses; I knew I wanted a vintage looking pair and was over the moon to find them in Specsavers. I think glasses are just another way to express your style and mine make every outfit feel complete as well as making me feel confident.’
A word from the store director
Lena Aggarwal, store director at Specsavers Leamington Spa, said: ‘It’s fantastic to have a local regional finalist, especially someone as bubbly as Caroline. The whole team came over to see her having her photos taken and it created a real buzz among the other customers in store. Maybe it even inspired someone to enter next year? We’ve all got our fingers crossed as it would be incredible to see Caroline at the final.’
The awards were launched by Strictly Come Dancing star and TV personality Oti Mabuse earlier this year. If she triumphs in her category, Caroline will meet Oti and rub shoulders with many other celebs at the glitzy awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue in October.
There are eight categories including a social media winner voted for by the public. All category winners will win a VIP makeover, with one overall winner taking home the ultimate accolade in specs wearing.
