A woman from Whitland has fought off competition from thousands of entries and reached the regional finals of Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year.
Mingling with the stars
Andrea Thomas, 55, could follow in the footsteps of last year’s Award winner, Shane Haron, and take home £10,000. She will also have the chance to mingle with the stars – including dancer Oti Mabuse, who launched the competition - at the annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards.
Glasses wearers across the UK and Republic of Ireland have been showing off their specs style by sharing their selfies online throughout the spring and summer.
Ms Thomas, an accounts manager for a construction sales firm, was invited to visit her local Specsavers store on Merlin’s Walk to receive a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a voucher worth £150.
She says: ‘I’ve worn glasses for 25 years so it feels strange to not have them on - like I’ve forgotten something.
‘I design my entire look around my frames, including my hair, so I could never go back to not wearing them.’
A glitzy London ceremony
Kevin McCarthy, director of Specsavers in Carmarthen, adds: ‘It was such a pleasure meeting Andrea. She was confident and funny – exactly the right kind of person for this competition.
‘On behalf of the whole team at Specsavers Carmarthen, we wish Andrea the best of luck in the competition and we’re backing her all the way to the final.’
