Cardiff local crowned spec wearing semi-finalist
A shop supervisor from Cardiff has beaten hundreds of people to be named as a regional semi-finalist in Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
Ruth Percival, 20, is in with a chance of winning an all-expenses paid trip to New York along with £10,000 spending money. R
uth, who has worn glasses since the age of three, entered the competition after receiving an email from Specsavers.
‘After I saw the email I thought why not as I think my glasses make me look fashionable, so I submitted a selfie,’ she says.
‘I definitely see wearing glasses as a positive thing, and I love wearing them as they add another level to my character.’
She was invited to her local Specsavers on Queen Street in Cardiff and presented with a bottle of champagne, a certificate and £150 to spend at the store.
Store director, James Deavall, says: ‘It is great that Ruth likes to experiment with her glasses frames to create different looks, and we hope she will inspire other glasses wearers to have the same positive attitude.
‘On behalf of everyone at the Cardiff Queen Street store, I’d like to congratulate Ruth on getting this far in the competition.’
The 2016 awards were launched earlier this year by singer and dancer Kimberly Wyatt. For each entry made, £1 has been donated to Kidscape anti-bullying charity.
