A Buxton woman was chosen out of hundreds of people across the north west and north Wales as a regional finalist for Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year.
Glasses wearers showed off their specs style by sharing their selfies online and entering in stores across the UK and Republic of Ireland.
Kate Hallam was invited to visit her local Specsavers store in Buxton to receive a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 glasses voucher.
'My glasses reflect my style'
Kate said: “I was delighted to find out I’d been named as a finalist. More and more, I find that use my glasses to add my outfit and reflect my personality, and this competition is a great opportunity to celebrate all things specs. I’d love to win, as I really want to treat my parents with the holiday and prove that wearing specs is cool.”
Sarah Watson, store manager at Specsavers Buxton, said: “Kate certainly looks great in her glasses, and we are thrilled to have a finalist recognised in our area. We have our fingers crossed that she’ll make it to the final. We love Kate’s attitude to wearing glasses and agree that, as there are so many styles to choose from, picking your specs should be fun and wearing them can really finish off a look.”
Awards launched by Emma Bunton
The awards were launched by Spice Girls singer and Heart FM DJ Emma Bunton earlier this year. The competition grand final will be a celeb-packed awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue on Tuesday 6 October.
There are five age categories – 16-24; 25-34; 35-44; 45-59 and 60+, plus a Facebook favourite voted for by the public. All age category winners will win a VIP makeover, with one overall winner taking home the ultimate accolade in specs wearing.
The ultimate Spectacle Wearer of the Year winner will receive £10,000, plus a week’s holiday for two in the Bahamas courtesy of Atlantis Paradise Island and a wardrobe of specs to suit every style.
