Staff at Specsavers in Uttoxeter have raised £220 for Brain Tumour Research by wearing hats and holding a competition to win a giant cuddly bunny.

The fundraising was off to a hopping start in March as staff from the store took part in Wear A Hat Day, donning colourful headgear at work. The team spent the day raising awareness that routine eye tests can detect signs of brain tumours.

Continuing the fundraising for Brain Tumour Research, customers made donations to ‘guess the name of the rabbit’ over the Easter period. Local lady, Jean Tate was delighted to win the competition and got to take Button the bunny home.

Laura Jacks, store director at Specsavers Uttoxeter, said: ‘We’re always looking for our next fundraising opportunity and taking part in Wear A Hat Day was a simple yet effective way to raise funds and awareness for a serious cause. 

‘Many people are unaware that eye tests are not only critical for your eyes but your wider health too. A routine test allows opticians to detect serious issues that can be both sight and, in some cases, life-threatening – including brain tumours.’

Brain Tumour Research uses funds to build a network of experts in world-class, sustainable brain tumour research in Centres of Excellence across the UK.
