Staff from Specsavers in Burton-on-Trent were delighted to be crowned winners at the East Staffordshire Volunteer Star Awards 2019 in the ‘Business Contribution to Volunteering’ category.
The glamorous awards ceremony took place on Friday 7 June at the Pirelli Stadium, the home of Burton Albion Football Club. The team from the High Street store were over the moon to win this prestigious award that recognises the charity work completed throughout the year.
A word from the store director
‘At first, we were so excited that we’d been shortlisted and invited to the ceremony let alone actually winning,’ said store director, Linda Joyce. ‘It was great to meet fellow businesses who volunteer in the community and hear all about what they do. We had such a brilliant night and winning the ‘Business Contribution to Volunteering’ award topped it off, giving us great cause for celebration.’
The store regularly holds fundraising events, many of which have been for the LoveInspire Foundation – a Burton-based charity offering help to local families in times of need. Specsavers staff collected their award with the founder of the charity, Monica Dunbar.
The East Staffordshire Volunteer Star Awards were hosted by Support Staffordshire, an organisation that aims to empower the local community. The awards acknowledged volunteer contribution to the community and categories included Volunteer Team of the Year Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, and Volunteer of the Year Award.
