Burnham eyes up double award nomination
The team at Specsavers Burnham-on-Sea is celebrating after being nominated for two prestigious industry awards.
The store is one of six to be shortlisted in the Community Eye Service Award category while optometrist and store director Rama Venkat is up against four others in the Optometrist of the Year category in this year’s Optician Awards. The winners will be announced at a gala dinner on Saturday 9 April, which will be held at Birmingham’s Vox Conference Centre.
In the community category, judges will be looking for a practice that is offering enhanced services and primary eye care in its community, something the store prides itself on, while Rama has been nominated thanks to his work helping to enhance the lives of patients, colleagues and the community. Here, the judges will be looking for true commitment to patient care and examples of how the optometrist’s actions have benefitted patients and the practice.
Best eyecare service
‘To have been shortlisted in two categories is just fantastic, we’re really thrilled,’ said Sai Rama, store manager. ‘The whole team works hard to ensure we provide the very best eyecare service so to be recognised in this way is testament to this. Our local community is extremely important to us and we are very grateful to all of our loyal customers for helping us make the store the success that it is.
‘Rama is extremely dedicated to his profession as well as each and every customer that he sees so it’s great that he’s been recognised for his ongoing work. We are all very much looking forward to attending the ceremony and regardless of the result, it’s a chance to celebrate and enjoy the night as a team.’
‘I’m very grateful to the whole community for their support over the years,’ commented Rama. ‘Without them, I wouldn’t be in a position to even be nominated so for that I’m very thankful and for their ongoing support.’
The Optician Awards – organised by national trade magazine, Optician – have been running for more than 15 years and recognise the work of opticians across the UK in 16 categories. The awards evening will also play host to several fundraising events, raising money for Blind Veterans UK.
