Specsavers Chester has given high visibility vests to hundreds of local children this winter, to make sure that motorists can see them clearly on the walk to and from school during the darker winter months.

Risk from motorists

At this time of year with the dark mornings and nights, combined with increasingly wintry weather, it can be difficult for motorists to see pedestrians. Many children are walking home from school at dusk, which is a particularly hazardous time.

Helping children and parents feel safe

The scheme aims to ensure that children – and their parents – feel safe when they’re out and about over the next few months.

The store reached out to several schools in the area, and donated vests to a number of primary schools.

By raising awareness and offering the children these vests, the store hopes to increase safety on trips and excursions.
