Bridgnorth opticians celebrate staff development
Specsavers in Bridgnorth is putting the focus on career development at all levels, with training and apprenticeships programmes for staff.
With an ongoing training programme that helps staff to forge a professional career in optics, career progression is something taken very seriously at the High Street store, and at the same time the leading opticians is busy investing in the next generation of optical experts through its award winning apprenticeships programme.
Luke Simpson is a recently qualified optometrist. Originally from Bridgnorth, Luke was a patient for several years before completing a Degree in Optometry at Cardiff University and joining the team. He is among four optometrists at the Specsavers store.
Luke commented: ‘After working towards my qualification, I’m really proud of my achievement. I’m so grateful to the team for their support throughout my training and while awaiting results; it’s a pleasure to work with such great colleagues.’
Following previous successful apprenticeships, the store has also recently welcomed new staff member, India Roberts. India is one of 200 people currently enrolled on the UK’s biggest government accredited scheme, which will see her gain one year’s apprenticeship experience at the Bridgnorth store.
The Specsavers apprenticeship scheme is open to anyone over the age of 16 and requires no previous optical experience. The programme, which has been running for more than two years, includes the completion of the Level 2 Diploma in Optics, with 90% of apprentices taking on full-time positions in the company upon qualification.
