Raffle raises hundreds
A raffle organised by Specsavers in Brecon has helped raise more than £400 for the Welsh children’s hospice, Tŷ Hafan.
Local resident Janet Hughes was all smiles after winning a hamper packed with donations from community businesses at a raffle organised by the team at Brecon.
The bumper hamper raised £419 for Tŷ Hafan’s work with life-limited children and their families. Included in the raffle was a family pass donated by Dan-Yr-Ogof Show Caves, a Sunday lunch for two from the Wellington Hotel and a meat hamper from local butcher, Paddy Sweeney.
Tŷ Hafan is the current dedicated charity for the Brecon High Street opticians, along with 36 other Specsavers stores across mid and south Wales. The charity cares for life-limited children and young people, and provides vital support to their families, both within the hospice and through its community outreach programme. Since 1999, it has supported 689 children across Wales, 263 of which are currently under its care.
‘Tŷ Hafan provides vital emotional and practical support to families facing unimaginable challenges and we’re extremely proud to be able to do something to help such a worthwhile cause,’ says Donna Like, director at the High Street opticians.
‘It was wonderful to have the support of other local businesses in Brecon and we’ve got lots of fundraising activities planned for the hospice throughout the coming months, which we’re hoping will be just as successful.’
