Bodmin carer wins regional specs wearing title
Jessica Black from St Tudy, near Bodmin is one step closer to a £10,000 cash prize in Specsavers’ annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
The 21 year-old works as a private carer for two young people in the area. She is also an avid specs wearer after misreading road signs on her way to a show jumping event in Wales but ending up in Bristol!
Girls Aloud fan
‘I was quite shocked when I received the call to say I had been successful and to think so many thousands of people entered!’ said Jessica. ‘I’m a huge fan of glasses and am known for buying a new pair every time I pass a Specsavers.
'My mum thinks I am crazy but every pair matches a different outfit! I’m also a big Girls Aloud fan so when I saw I could meet Nadine Coyle, I had to enter the competition!’
A congratulations from Bodmin Specsavers
Jo McLean, Specsavers Bodmin store director said: ‘Jessica is one of the most responsible and kind hearted young people I have met. She would make an admirable ambassador for specs wearers everywhere. It was a pleasure to meet her and we wish her all the luck in the next stage of judging.’
Jessica has qualified as a South West regional finalist in the 16-24 age category and was presented with a certificate, bottle of champagne and £150 eyewear voucher at the Specsavers store in Bodmin.
If Jessica gets through to the next stage she could meet competition ambassador and former Girls Aloud star, Nadine Coyle, at the celeb-packed awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue on 10 October.
