Blind golfer hails Specsavers sponsorship
Specsavers sponsorship has helped a blind golfer earn glory at the highest level of disabled support.
Since the Morecambe store joined with Dame Mary Perkins to support Peter Osborne, he has won four tournaments including a European title.
The financial backing allows the 48-year-old dad-of-three from Carnforth, Lancs, to play in competitions for disabled golfers all over the UK and the continent.
Peter said: ‘Specsavers’ support has made a massive difference to me. I’m incredibly excited to compete across the globe and raise the profile of blind and disabled golf.
‘I hope to provide inspiration to other blind and visually impaired people who have endured the same life-changing trauma as I have.’
Peter has been a Specsavers customer for 15 years, and his sight disability was diagnosed at the Holloway store 10 years ago. He has bulls eye maculopathy, which Peter said ‘is like living in a small fuzzy world of about 30 to 50 yards.’
In competitions he is able to plot his way around the course, and hole putts, with the help of a guide. Peter receives expert eyecare at the Morecambe store near his home.
Director Stephanie Sewell said: ‘He truly is an inspiration. We’re honoured to say he is a regular customer.’
