A man from Blackwood has beaten hundreds of people to be named as a regional semi-finalist in Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
Richard Sterry, 46, is in with a chance of winning an all-expenses paid trip to New York and £10,000 spending money.
‘My glasses suit my look’
‘I love wearing my glasses and the frames I chose look good during the day when dressed casual, and if you go out in the evening,’ he says.
‘I’m into skating so my glasses suit my look and reflect my character. I would tell other glasses wearers to pick frames they are happy with and just be confident in wearing them.’
Richard, who has been wearing glasses for six years, was invited to his local Specsavers in Blackwood and presented with a bottle of champagne, a certificate and £150 to spend at the store.
Wish Richard the best of luck
Store director, Jonathan Evans, says: ‘It is great that Richard is really happy with his frames and loves to wear them. We hope that his confidence will inspire other spectacle wearers to don their glasses with pride.
‘On behalf of everyone at the Blackwood store, I’d like to congratulate Richard on getting this far in the competition.’
The 2016 awards were launched by singer and dancer Kimberly Wyatt. For each entry made £1 has been donated to Kidscape anti-bullying charity.
