Donations for international charity
Specsavers in Bitterne, Shirley, Southampton and Totton have collected more than 700 pairs of glasses in the first six months of the year to donate to Vision Aid Overseas, a charity enabling those living in poverty in Africa to access affordable glasses and eye care.
Brighter future in sight
The teams have been encouraging their local communities to donate their used and unwanted specs at the stores, which are then collected and recycled by Vision Aid Overseas. Proceeds generated from the reusable parts are used to establish vision centres, train local eye care professionals and provide outreach services to isolated communities in Africa.
Richard Morgan, store director at Specsavers Bitterne, said: ‘We’re proud supporters of Vision Aid Overseas and all the glasses we send to the charity help to make a difference to the lives of people who don’t have easy access to eye care.
'We’d like to thank all of our customers in Bitterne for supporting the charity.’
How you can help
Specsavers Bitterne, Shirley, Southampton and Totton are continuing to collect glasses for Vision Aid Overseas and are aiming to donate more than 1,400 pairs by the end of the year. If you have any old specs to hand, please donate them at one of the stores today.
