While Specsavers Bexhill on Western Road is closed for all routine eye and hearing tests at the moment, they are still open to provide essential care and support local key workers.
Customers are being encouraged to call the store if they need urgent support with a visual problem, or if they have issues with their glasses, contact lenses or hearing aids.
Supporting the community
The team have already leapt into action to help local mum Hannah Tipp after she broke her glasses shortly after giving birth to her fifth child. Hannah has a really high prescription (+7) and can only really see shapes and colours without her glasses, so was struggling to see her new baby son clearly.
This made it harder for her to change his nappy, and she couldn’t see his face, fingers and toes clearly – which meant she was missing out on the changes that happen to babies in their first few weeks.
Providing essential care
Hannah was not normally a Specsavers customer, but after her usual independent optician closed for business during lockdown she called the Western Road store for help. Optometrist Liam saw her for an urgent eye test, following government guidelines, and was able to get a new pair of glasses sorted for her quickly so that she did not miss out on any more moments.
The team were also able to help a young girl whose glasses were held together with sellotape to get a new pair before they broke completely.
A word from the store director
Rob Lofting, store director in Bexhill, said: ‘We are really pleased to have been able to help Hannah, and our other customers, with their urgent and essential eye and hearing care needs at what is such a challenging time for everyone.
‘We want the local community to know that, while we are closed for routine appointments at the present time, we are still very much here to support people – so please give us a call if you need us.’
Here to help
If anyone is required to attend the store, they will be asked to do so – and key workers will be prioritised.
The store is seeing people by appointment only, in line with government advice, and are following all current guidance.
