Barry woman beats hundreds to become competition semi-finalist
A woman from Barry has beaten hundreds of people to be named as a regional semi-finalist in Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
Christine Goring, 63, is in with a chance of winning an all-expenses paid trip to New York along with £10,000 spending money.
‘I look better with my glasses on’
‘When I saw the competition on Facebook, which featured last year’s winner for my age group, I thought if they can do it, then I can. I think I look better with my glasses on and they are a part of me,’ she says.
‘Everyone should choose glasses that they like and that they are comfortable wearing.’
Christine, who has been wearing glasses for over 40 years, was invited to her local Specsavers on Holton Road and presented with a bottle of champagne, a certificate and £150 to spend at the store.
Wearing with confidence
Store director, Jamie Pullen, says: ‘It is great that Christine wears her glasses with confidence and we hope she will inspire other glasses wearers to have such a positive attitude about their frames.
‘On behalf of everyone at the Barry store, I’d like to congratulate Christine on getting this far in the competition.’
The 2016 awards were launched earlier this year by singer and dancer Kimberly Wyatt. For each entry made, £1 has been donated to Kidscape anti-bullying charity.
