One of simplest things is to make sure you are taking regular breaks, says opticians from Specsavers in Hampshire. Try to take a break every 20 minutes and focus your eyes elsewhere – outside of a window, for example.
Watch the light
Bright lights – be it a badly adjusted monitor to glare on the screen – are big no nos. If you wear glasses, anti-refractive lenses help. Pull down a blind too to avoid sunlight on the screen and try to avoid sitting under fluorescent lighting if possible.
Is your work station set up correctly?
Incorrect desk and chair height can cause eye strain too, says Hampshire opticians. The guidelines are: screen distance is to be approx. 20 to 24 inches from your eyes and the centre of the screen should be 10 to 15 degrees below your eye line.
Do you need a two year sight test?
All Hampshire opticians recommend a sight test every two years. Sometimes, you can think an eye health issue is linked to your computer use but it could be a vision change or even a medical condition.
