Optometrists at Bangor Specsavers have undertaken training to allow them to provide services for patients who need post-operative care from cataract surgery.

Alongside the 23 other Specsavers businesses in Northern Ireland, staff from the Bloomfield Shopping Centre store attended the training programme which was facilited by leading Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon Professor Johnathan Moore, and his team at Cathedral Eye Clinic, Belfast.

Enhanced skills and services

Stuart Douglas, store director at Bangor Specsavers attended the training and said: ‘This enhances the expertise and skills of our optometrists in store, as well as offering further services for our patients.

‘While cataract surgery is a relatively simple and virtually painless procedure, aftercare is incredibly important, and to have accessibility to such post-op care seven days a week will be immeasurably valuable to our patients.’

Regular eye testing

Over 70 Specsavers optometrists across Northern Ireland are now trained in post-op cataract care. Eye tests should be carried out every two years, and if patients experience symptoms such as blurred vision or cloudiness, or any changes in vision which impair sight, they should be checked out immediately.
