One of Ballymena’s proudest glasses wearers are now a step closer to winning the coveted Spectacle Wearer of the Year Award, with a grand prize of £10,000 and a luxury holiday in the Bahamas. Alicia Gibson, aged 18, from Ballymena, was chosen from hundreds of entries from across Northern Ireland.

Known as the Oscars of the glasses world, the awards celebrate spectacle wearers from the UK and Republic of Ireland, across four age categories: 15-24; 25-39; 40-59 and 60+.

The awards were launched by Girls Aloud singer and West End star Kimberley Walsh earlier this year, who Miss Gibson could meet at the awards ceremony if she triumphs in her age category. The awards will be held at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue on Tuesday 7 October. All age category winners will win a VIP makeover, with one overall winner taking home the ultimate accolade in specs wearing.

Miss Gibson is one of eight regional finalist chosen within Northern Ireland and is one of two finalists for the 16-24 age category.

Good luck

Adrian Murdoch, store director, Ballymena Specsavers store, said: ‘We would like to wish Miss Gibson all the very best for the final round of judging. It is such a great achievement to have reached the final eight within Northern Ireland. Miss Gibson really wears her Specsavers glasses well.’
