Team members from Burnham-on-Sea Specsavers attended the prestigious Optician Awards on Saturday 9 April to celebrate being shortlisted in two categories.

Quality recognised all round

Store director Rama Venkat was one of only four optometrists in the UK nominated in the Optometrist of the Year category, recognising his work to enhance the lives of patients, colleagues and the community. The team was also shortlisted for the Community Eye Service Award following the store’s commitment to offering enhanced services and primary eyecare in the local community.

‘We were absolutely delighted to be nominated in two categories for this year’s awards,’ said Sai Rama, store manager. ‘Although on this occasion we didn’t win an award, being one of only a handful of store’s across the country to be recognised for our work is a fantastic achievement and is testament to all the effort put in by the team, particularly for Rama who is extremely dedicated to his profession.’

The Optician Awards – organised by national trade magazine, Optician – have been running for more than 15 years and recognise the work of opticians across the UK in 16 categories. The awards evening also played host to several fundraising events, raising money for Blind Veterans UK.
