With Australia Day this year serving as a reminder of the devastation that has been going on the country, staff at Specsavers Dunstable wanted to do their bit by raising almost £100 for Australia Red Cross.
Bushfires have been wiping out huge areas of Australia since 2019 meaning that people are being left stranded after being evacuated from their homes and not knowing when they can return.
Dress down day and raising awareness
Over the weekend, staff members raised money by donating towards a dress down day. The store was decorated with Australian flags and posters were up in store to raise awareness.
Customers from the local community in Dunstable did their bit by making donations throughout the day, particularly those who had their glasses repaired and cleaned.
Thinking of others
Emma Hyde, retail manager from Specsavers in Dunstable, says: ‘Our staff were keen to take action to help out in Australia given how devastating the fires have been.
‘We can’t imagine how awful it must be to be evacuated from your home and not know when you might be able to return, or what you will be returning to so as always it's great to see our staff getting stuck into helping out those in need.’
