An Audiologist at Specsavers Hearcare Sale is celebrating after passing a recent examination which will grant customers access to a new hearing service.

Anum Saleemi, audiology director at Specsavers Sale and Altrincham, has become fully qualified in earwax removal by microsuction, after completing her exam this month.

Following several successful months for the hearcare department, members of staff at Specsavers in Frome have celebrated their achievements with a puzzling evening of fun and games.

Hosted by ‘Locked in a Room’ in Bristol, the team were tasked with a number of challenging clues and puzzles to solve and escape in under 60 minutes.

A Specsavers audiologists in Ross on Wye held a coffee morning for Hearing Dogs

A Specsavers audiologists in Ross-on-Wye invited locals to pause for thought on Friday 19 May and come in store to enjoy a cup of coffee in the name of charity.

Staff at the store showed their support for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People by hosting a fundraising day named PAWS for a coffee, raising £60. Local residents were invited to treat themselves to a cup of the hot stuff and a sweet treat in exchange for donations.

Specsavers stores across the country collect unwanted hearing aids to send to Sound Seekers to be recycled

Specsavers Audiologists invested £85,522 in grants to Sound Seekers over a three year period from 2015-2018, to fund the charity’s Hearing Aid Refurbishment Project (HARP).

Providing urgent care

Thanks to the investment, Specsavers has helped Sound Seekers to meet an urgent need to provide some of the poorest communities in Africa with hearing aids, which would otherwise not be available or affordable to patients who need them.

Hearing loss is costing the UK economy more than £1 billion a year according to new research.

This staggering sum, which was revealed in a report by professor Les Mayhew of Cass Business School, City, University of London with support from Specsavers Audiologists, is directly attributable to NHS costs, disability benefits costs, and lost output.

Specsavers stride to support Hearing Dogs

Specsavers Audiologists are set to step-up for this year’s Great British Dog Walk.

The fundraising event, organised by Specsavers charity partner Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, will see 20 countryside walks held nationwide between March and June 2017.

Specsavers staff will join the 4,000 people and 500 dogs expected to take part in the initiative, which aims to raise money to train specialist hearing dogs to work with deaf people and the hearing impaired.

Hearcare director Jake Tyers is fully trained to provide aural micro suction, allowing him to carry out the quick and painless procedure for customers. Anyone suffering with symptoms associated with earwax build-up, such as tinnitus or prolonged earache, could benefit from the service.
