This National Apprenticeship Week (February 3-9), Specsavers Chatham is celebrating the success of their apprentices instore – five of whom have gone on to build lasting careers as part of the current High Street team.
New store manager Leila went on to complete her Cert 4 qualification in optical dispensing with Specsavers and is currently completing ILM management training, while Abigail – the first apprentice at the store – has completed her Cert 3 in optical dispensing and is now in charge of instore merchandising. She has just started her Cert 4.
Erin has also completed Cert 3 and Cert 4 in optical dispensing and is now training to be a dispensing optician. Jodie has completed Cert 3 in optical dispensing and Cert 3 in enhanced optical services, and is now clinical supervisor in store, while Tyler has just completed Cert 3 in optical dispensing and is looking forward to building a career in optics.
The theme for National Apprenticeship Week this year is ‘Look Beyond’, encouraging young people, their parents and teachers, and employers to celebrate the diversity and talent that apprenticeships bring to communities across the country.
Building a lasting career
Punit Patel, store director in Chatham, said: ‘We are delighted to have had so many apprentices join us – and decide to stay with us. They are a big part of our team and are playing a major role in inspiring the next generation of staff in the store.
‘Specsavers offer a wide variety of apprenticeships, and they are open to people of any age. With around 400 roles available across the country this year, an apprenticeship can – as our apprentices have shown – lead to a lasting career.’
