An apprentice at Specsavers in Wigan is starting an exciting career in optics thanks to an apprenticeship programme.
Deanna Halai, age 19, has completed her Optical Assistant Level 2 Apprenticeship with a distinction, and will now begin the next stage of optical training within the store.
She started with the Wigan team in 2018 and has been working alongside Lee Robinson, a manager at the store - carrying out examinations and dispensing of optical appliances.
Deanna says: ‘Since starting my apprenticeship, I’ve been given so many opportunities to develop within Specsavers. The team in Wigan have done everything they can to support me along the way and I’d really encourage other young people to consider beginning an optics career via apprenticeships.’
Laura Gardner, director at Specsavers Wigan, says: ‘We’re so pleased to see that all of Deanna’s hard work has paid off and are proud to have her be part of the team. We’ve had over ten apprentices work with us so far and all have been fantastic. It’s great to watch them grow as people and see them develop as members of the team.
‘The Specsavers apprenticeship programmes are a fantastic way to begin a rewarding and successful career and our training has been viewed as best in the sector by Ofsted.
‘As long as you’re a hard worker, punctual and ambitious you will do well at Specsavers and there is plenty of opportunity to continue your development.’
There are several different apprenticeship opportunities, including lab roles, optical assistant, customer service or retail. The scheme is open to anyone from the age of 16 including recent school or college leavers or those looking for a new challenge, all that is required is a grade D or higher in GCSE Maths and English.
