A healthcare support worker in Antrim Area Hospital has been chosen out of hundreds of people across Northern Ireland as a regional finalist for Specsavers ‘Spectacle Wearer of the Year’.
Lorraine Thompson, who is 41, now has the opportunity to compete for the top prizes of £10,000 and a luxury holiday in the Bahamas if she wins, as well as a chance to mingle with the stars at the 20th annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards. As a finalist Lorraine was invited to visit the Specsavers store in Castle Mall where she received a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 glasses voucher.
Glasses Give Me Confidence
At the presentation, Lorraine said: ‘I’ve needed glasses since I was 13 and just love wearing them. Glasses give me confidence and are a big part of who I am. I have three pairs at the moment and am looking forward to spending my voucher on some more! It would be amazing to be part of the final in London but if not I’ve really enjoyed the competition so far.’
Chance to meet Emma Bunton
The awards were launched by Spice Girls singer and Heart FM DJ Emma Bunton earlier this year. If Lorraine triumphs, she could meet Emma at the celeb-packed awards ceremony in London on Tuesday 6 October.
Congratulations to Lorraine
Congratulating Lorraine, Specsavers store manager Ita Armour said: ‘Lorraine and her children have been coming to Specsavers in Antrim for over three years. She’s a great ambassador for glasses wearer as she genuinely enjoys wearing them and looks great in many different styles. Lorraine has done increasingly well to be selected as a regional finalist given the huge volume of entries and everyone in our Antrim store is rooting for her as she goes forward to the next stage.’
