Protect eyes from UV damage this summer says Andover Specsavers' team
Protect eyes in the sun this summer

Now that the sun has decided to make an apperance, Specsavers in Andover is keen to remind the community how important sunglasses really are when it comes to protecting our eyes.

Look cool, protect eyes

A daper pair of frames always helps us look on trend, but as well as their style credentials, they play a very important role - ensuring eyes are not damaged by UV rays.

Says store director, Paul Dhanji

'UV rays can cause lots of problems for the eyes.  Sunlight can irritate the cornea at the front of the eye.  In more serious cases, these harmful UV rays could led to cornea, age related macular degeneration, cataracts and even blindness.’

How to protect eyes

Paul advises to look for frames that comply with BSEN1836: 1997 or bear the CE Kitemark and are marked UV 400.  Also think about adding polarised lenses to your prescription as this can decrease the amount of glare, which can dazzle and strain your vision – particularly useful when you are by the pool or participating in outdoors sports.

For a great range, pop into Specsavers in Andover and the team will be happy to help you select a pair that suits you.
