An extensive fundraising campaign has just come to an end for Specsavers Torquay.
Honouring the memory of Joy
The store, located on 79-81 Union Street, has raised a grand total of £3,754.00 for Cancer Research UK and Rowcroft Hospice following a series of activities. Staff were keen to raise money to honour the memory of late store director Joy Filon, who passed away in December.
Store staff took part in various activities to encourage donations. They braved the cold for a Run Into The Sea at Torre Sands, where they donned their best fancy dress, and also joined staff from the Teignmouth branch to take part in Rock Solid, which saw them battle through a 10k mud obstacle course in Exeter.
A sense of community in Torquay
In addition, the store held a fundraising event at Specsavers Torquay itself, where staff had a pyjama day and also pushed themselves to the limit by rowing as far as they could on an exercise machine. The event was quite literally ‘music to customer’s ears’ as they also enjoyed some live numbers outside the store.
Specsavers Torquay store director, Simon Simmonds says: ‘Our staff have outdone themselves to raise money for Rowcroft Hospice and Cancer Research UK.
‘There was a real sense of community as everyone came together to do all sorts of activities to encourage donations, ranging from rowing to leg waxing in store. We’re so proud of them and couldn’t be more grateful for the generosity of our community.’
