Staff celebrating 20th birthday

The Specsavers team in Altrincham celebrated the George Street store's 20th birthday at the weekend, by running a raffle in aid of the store’s charity partner, Whythenshawe Hospital.

The birthday fun day took place on 19 July 2014, with staff spending the previous evening baking cakes for the big birthday bake sale, which helped to raise more cash for the hospital.

As an extra promotion in the lead up to the event, anyone who bought a pair of glasses from the store was automatically entered into a draw to win their specs for free. The lucky winner of a free pair of frames was Charlie Barratt, age 8.

Jan Owen, from the Wythenshawe Hospital said: ‘The fun day is a fantastic idea and will not only raise cash for the hospital, it will also bring the Altrincham community together too, which is what Specsavers does really well.’

Prizes won at the fun day included:

  • tickets to the Lyceum Theatre in Crewe
  • Amazon vouchers
  • tickets to the dog races
  • dress worn by Corrie actress Patti Clare (Mary Taylor), provided by Granada Studios.

Kids could also pay £1 to the charity, which entered them into a lucky dip, where every child won one a toy, and one lucky child winning tickets to Gulliver’s World theme park.

Proud of the dedicated staff

Stephen Kirkham, director at Specsavers in Altrincham says: ‘It’s been a great 20 years at the store, and each year that passes by makes me feel more and more proud of the dedicated staff working here.

‘The charity events are where the staff really shine – as usual everyone got involved this time and we had a healthy turnout from the local community too. The prizes went down really well and we raised £160.75 for our charity, so it was a great success.'
