As part of National Careers Week (5-11 March) Specsavers Cheltenham was invited to All Saints Academy to give a talk to students.
The school was hosting a 'World of Work' day with a number of local businesses and organisations taking part.
Mary Court and Emily Ashman talked to a class of Year 11 pupils about work experience, apprenticeships, career options and training.
‘Initially we gave each student a contact lens pack to open and investigate,' said Mary, who recently graduated as a dispensing optician.
Learning about working in the optical industry
'We then handed out different lenses for the pupils to look at and compare whilst we explained the difference between being short sighted and long sighted. Running these activities gave the youngsters confidence to ask a variety of questions about working in an opticians, which was great'.
At the end of the session, the class was given Specsavers career leaflets entitled 'Seeing Things Differently'. Mary and Emily encouraged the students to consider taking up work experience placements should they get the opportunity.
