Specsavers is due to be opening in the Sainsbury’s on the Crossley Retail Park, on Monday 4 March, operating as a sister store to the existing neighbouring town practice.

Familiar faces to Specsavers
The business will be run by two directors, Jonathan Lee and Tim Reeves, who have more than 60 optical years’ experience between them. Both are also familiar faces to Specsavers, as they head up the Kidderminster town centre store.

As part of the opening, the store has already recruited six local staff to join the team, which will be headed up by lead optometrist, Harpreet Chhoker.

‘We’re really excited to be launching a new store in Sainsbury’s and welcoming customers through the doors,’ commented Jonathan. ‘We are looking forward to being able to offer our customers the best possible standards of eye care and customer service but with a choice of two locations.

‘The opening also re-enforces Specsavers position as one of the largest employers in Kidderminster. Alongside the town centre store, Specsavers Vision Labs – the largest manufacturer of prescription lenses in the UK - is also based here, employing more than 256 people, alongside IGS, one of the largest spectacle manufacturers in the UK, and Lens-on-Line, the largest UK contact lens distributor.’

Latest high-tech equipment
The brand-new store has two optical consulting rooms, a contact lens area and a dedicated sound-proof room for audiology.  It boasts all the latest high-tech optical equipment including an advanced eye-scanning system which helps to detect several eye conditions, including glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic retinopathy. The Nidek 3D Optical Coherence Tomography machine (OCT) is similar to an ultrasound but uses light instead of sound waves to create a picture from the reflections – in this case, the back of the eye.
OCT scans are additional to the normal eye test and can be requested when the appointment is booked or when the customer arrives in store. The cost of this scan (£10) is not covered by the NHS examination.

The Kidderminster Crossley Sainsbury’s store will be open seven days a week, with hearing appointments available one day a week.
