Alexandria local has stardom in her sights
A Local woman has had a taste of fame after appearing in a Specsavers credit on prime time TV.
Cara Gilliland, 20, from Alexandria starred as a Scottish Highland dancer in one of the most recent Specsavers sponsored adverts on STV.
The ad was filmed on the banks of Loch Lomond and saw a team of eight Highland games competitors defeat a tent instead of another team in a classic ‘should have gone to Specsavers’ moment. Cara starred as a dancer reacting in shock as the tent collapses.
The latest credits were all themed around Highland games and featured real competitors instead of actors, including ones specialising in caber tossing, the tug of war, Highland dancing and piping.
Highland dancing highlights
Cara started dancing at the age of two and now performs and teaches at the Lacey Brown School of Dancing in Alexandria. She recently graduated from a two year course in dance performance and has competed in several Highland games and dancing competitions and has also performed at the Edinburgh Tattoo.
As a thank you for being such a good sport and featuring in the comic credit, Cara’s local Specsavers store in Dumbarton gifted her with a brand new pair of non-prescription sunglasses. The dancer donned her outfit for the occasion.
A word from our store director
Robin Mitchell, store director at Specsavers in Dumbarton, said: ‘The Highland games theme of the latest credits is fantastic and it was great that the films featured real competitors. When we heard that Cara was from Dumbarton we took the chance to invite her into store and present her with some new specs.’
Cara said: ‘It was great fun taking part in the filming and a pleasure to meet the Dumbarton store team. Participating in Highland games and performing at the Edinburgh Tattoo over the years has been amazing and starring on prime time TV definitely comes close!’
