Store manager, Richard Goring, from Specsavers in Witney is gearing up for his second trip to Africa to help provide vital eyecare to local people.

Richard is heading out to Ethiopia on Saturday 7 June for a two week stay. The trip is being organised by Vision Aid Overseas (VAO) and follows on from Richard’s visit to Botswana at the end of last year.

A qualified dispensing optician, Richard will be joined by two optometrists and all three will help train and develop local Ethiopian optometrists. They will visit three townships, as well as smaller rural communities, as part of an outreach programme.

‘My first trip was an overwhelming but amazing experience so when the opportunity came to go out to Africa again, I jumped at the chance,’ said Richard. ‘Access to affordable eyecare is something we take for granted in this country, but for many people in Africa, it’s something they just don’t have.’

The store is getting behind Richard and helping him raise money to fund the trip. Some members of the team will be taking part in a sponsored walk on Sunday 18 May and collection tins are in the store should customers want to show their support.
