Advanced customer care qualification
We’re pleased to announce that six staff in Biggleswade have proudly completed their qualifications as Dementia Friends.
Dementia Friends is an Alzheimer’s Society initiative that helps staff develop an understanding of dementia and support customers and employees who are affected by the condition.
Alpesh Mistry, store director, said: ‘We’re delighted that the team have qualified as Dementia Friends.
‘Working in an environment where sense and a sensitivity to advanced medical conditions are essential, it’s important that our team fully understand what’s needed to support customers in the early and late stages of this condition.’
‘It’s been rewarding to reflect on the challenges and issues that affect people with Dementia and to understand what we can do to make an eye health or hearing assessment easier for those experiencing it.’
Qualified staff now include: Tracy Rook, Jordan Tembey, Susan Scott, Sarah Godfrey, Olga Pansa and Kieran Ward.
Alpesh adds: ‘The Alzheimer’s Society is such an important charity. 850,000 people in the UK now suffer from dementia in the UK, with numbers set to rise to over one million by 2025.
‘Almost everyone is affected by the condition at some stage in their lives – either through their family or friends. It’s a vital service we can offer to help so we’re happy to have provided it.
'Staff in store with the qualification can be identified by the blue badges they wear – so if you’re planning a trip, please do approach the team and talk or alternatively ask another member of the team for assistance in locating one of our newly qualified members of staff.’
Dementia Friends is a qualification that is completed online and entails watching a series of scenario-based videos.
