Aberystwyth finalists have the specs factor
A couple from Aberystwyth have been chosen out of hundreds of people across Wales as regional finalists for Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year.
Rosemary Fernandez and husband Philip Fernandez, both of the 60+ category, could win £10,000 and a luxury holiday in the Bahamas, as well as a chance to mingle with the stars at the 20th annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards.
Rosemary and Philip were invited to visit their local Specsavers store in Aberystwyth to each receive a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 glasses voucher.
‘We sent our selfies in’
Mrs Fernandez said: ‘I’ve only been wearing glasses for the last 10 years of my life and think that they are good fun; there are plenty of styles to choose from. My husband and I love to enter competitions and with Specsavers always being so helpful to us, we thought we should definitely send our selfies in!’
‘Fantastic semi-finalists for Wales’
Graham Park, store director of Specsavers in Aberystwyth, said: ‘It’s fantastic to have two finalists from Aberystwyth, especially husband and wife! Rosemary and Philip really enjoy wearing their frames and we hope that their confidence will inspire other spectacle-wearers to don their glasses with pride.
‘We think both are fantastic semi-finalists for Wales, and all the team at Aberystwyth wish them the very best of luck for the next round of judging for this year’s Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.’
The awards were launched by Spice Girls singer and Heart FM DJ Emma Bunton earlier this year. If either Mrs or Mr Fernandez triumphs in their age category, they could meet Emma at the celeb-packed awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue on Tuesday 6 October.
