Specsavers in Norris Green has once again bolstered the professional skills of its staff, ensuring that it continues to provide a leading optical and hearing service for the local area.

A talented team

Linda McCartney, an employee of four years and Carrie Fagan, who has worked at the store for three years, passed their Cert 4 certificate in optical dispensing, meaning both are now qualified to provide a more extended range of optical services to customers at the store.

Inspiring leaders at Specsavers

During the award ceremony, Linda met Specsavers founder Dame Mary Perkins, who presented her with the certificate. Linda says: ‘I was delighted to win my award and it was an honour to meet Dame Mary too.

She is very inspiring and really encourages and supports us all to learn as much as possible – it’s great to have that sort of encouragement and its probably one of the reasons I’ve stayed with Specsavers for as long as I have.’

From Sunday girl to full time, qualified audiologist

Jessica Hinnigan started at the store as a Sunday girl four and a half years ago and quickly moved on to full time employment, becoming an integral part of the team.

A couple of years ago Jess completed and passed her Hearing Care Assistants Level 4 Diploma and is now in the middle of an audiology degree with full support and sponsorship from Specsavers in Norris Green.

Once her degree is complete, Jess has ambitions to continue her career at the store as an audiologist.

Jess said: ‘The support from the store has been amazing. I started off just working Sundays, and worked my way up to full time. ‘When I expressed an interest in the audiology side of the business, Paul (the store director) told me about all the training I could do with Specsavers to really realise my potential working in this field.’

Contact lenses expertise

And completing the group of professionals working at Specsavers in Norris Green is Deborah Cowpland, one of the store’s longest serving employees, who recently completed a level 6 Diploma in Contact Lenses.

Debbie already has a dispensing optician's degree that was sponsored by the store a few years ago and this diploma adds to her skills.

A team to be proud of

Paul Stanway, Director at Specsavers in Norris Green says: ‘I am lucky to have such motivated staff here at the store and it’s just great to be in a position to aid and support their professional development to such success.

‘One of the most rewarding parts of my job is watching the staff here learn more and flourish – and be able to use this knowledge to give our customers more help and support. ‘I am very proud of all of them!’
