The team at Specsavers in Margate and Ramsgate have completed the Dementia Friends training, an initiative run by the Alzheimer’s society.
The comprehensive training covers all aspects of dementia and discusses how it affects people in different ways. With particular relevance to Specsavers it also describes how senses can be affected, including sight and hearing.
What is dementia?
Those with dementia commonly experience problems with their sight and visual perception, causing them to misinterpret the world around them. Some sufferers can experience hallucinations.
A word from the director
David Bryant, Margate and Ramsgate store director, says: ‘‘We decided to do the training to help all of our team to better understand how dementia can affect people so that we can give them a better service.
‘It was a very rewarding learning process and we now feel better equipped with the necessary skills to support all of our customers.
'Everyone who completed the course now wears a Dementia Friends badge which is a great visual indicator to customers of our increased awareness.’
