Customers choose which charity they want to support
Specsavers in Sutton Coldfield has raised more than £1,000 for the Kelli Smith Appeal and Cherished.
For the past six months, customers have been handed tokens – two for every eye examination and three for every purchase – which they got to place in the box of the cause they’d most like to support.
Both charities were awarded a proportion of the total fundraising amount based on how many tokens had been placed in their boxes. As a result, the Kelli Smith Appeal will receive £560 to help Kelli afford pioneering cancer treatment, and Cherished will receive £440 to support the charity’s mentoring scheme.
‘This is the first time that we have run an initiative like this, but we thought it would be good to give our customers the chance to choose which charity they wanted to support,’ said Tim Goodhew, store director at Specsavers in Sutton Coldfield.
‘It’s gone down really well and we’re now looking ahead to the next six months, supporting our two other charity partners; Friday Friends (formerly known as Hearts & Minds) and Splats Group.’
Friday Friends is a specialist local support group for those suffering with memory problems or dementia. More information can be found here. www.alzheimers.org.uk
Splats Group is a parent-led, nonprofit organisation that runs a play and stay for children with additional needs.
