Specsavers' Sevenoaks team has recently donated hundreds of unwanted glasses to Vision Aid Overseas (VAO) and is calling for more donations.
The store has been encouraging local residents to donate their disused and unwanted glasses to the store in order to help the cause which sets up eyecare services in Zambia.
Specsavers director, Maxine Chakowa said: ‘We would like to thank our customers for their generosity and thanks to their efforts we’ve been able to donate hundreds of glasses this year. ‘We’re keen to keep up the drive and we’re encouraging more people to donate. It’s important that we provide opportunities for those less fortunate than us in the UK.’
Since 2003, Specsavers has donated £800,000 to VAO meaning 85,000 people have been able to receive eyecare in Zambia. On top of this vision centres have been opened in eight Zambian provinces and the donation has helped to open the country’s first optometry training centre which was officially opened by Specsavers founder.
