One of the world’s best-loved monsters emerged from the deep, dark woods to celebrate a special birthday at Specsavers in Motherwell.

The Gruffalo joined staff and customers at the store in a fun day to mark the 15th anniversary of the book that takes his name.

The hairy hero was there to say ‘hello’ to customers, help hand out balloons and goody bags, and help raise awareness of the launch of the Gruffalo children’s eyewear range in store.

The Gruffalo eyewear range includes a selection of six styles for boys and girls, priced at £64, or free with an NHS voucher and also included in the Kids Two Free Pairs promotion.

Collection of colourful characters

Favourite characters from Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s beloved children’s picture books, including Witch and Cat, Dragon, and the Gruffalo’s Child, all make an appearance in the collection.

Store director Ian Moss says: ‘15 years on, the Gruffalo is still a favourite with children and adults alike.

‘We were delighted that he chose to visit the store to celebrate his birthday, and to let customers know about the new range.

‘It was a great opportunity to show younger specs wearers that glasses can be fun to wear, and can help keep their favourite characters close.’
