Three's a charm at a Specsavers in Hessle, as the team has upped its fundraising ante by holding three different charitable events throughout December.

Staff at the Specsavers store on Prestongate have been very busy during the festive season, hosting several Christmas fundraisers for three different charities: Hull & East Riding Institute of the Blind (HERIB), Save the Children and Vision Aid Overseas.

On 28 November, the team at the store dressed up in Santa outfits, parked a sleigh outside the store and hosted an in-store raffle to raise vital funds for HERIB, a charity which provides support for local people suffering from sight loss. The store raised over £100 on the day for the charity and is continuing to raise further funds throughout December.

On Friday 12 December, the team came to work in Christmas jumpers in aid of Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day and managed to raise over £100.

A word from the director

Kay Weaver, store director at Hessle Specsavers, commented: ‘My team feels very passionate about helping others, and like they say, “'tis the season” to help others in the lead-up to Christmas. It’s very important to help raise money for local charities that rely entirely on donations, legacies and fundraising to keep their services running.

‘There are so many worthy causes out there, and like many others, we tend to try to chip in when national fundraising initiatives come up as well too.’

The team’s fundraising efforts don’t stop here – this month the team is sending off more than 500 pairs of glasses to Vision Aid Overseas, an international non-government organisation based in the UK that provides access to eye care in developing countries. A total of 573 pairs of glasses have been donated by the local community to the store for Vision Aid Overseas (VAO). The frames will be recycled by VAO, and the money is used to support its work in developing countries. Local customers can drop into the store and leave their unwanted specs in the special collection bins to help further the cause.
