Bracknell customer is finalist for Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year
A Specsavers Bracknell customer has been short-listed as a regional finalist for Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year SWOTY), out of hundreds of people across the South East.
Rachel Sturgess, who works locally at the Hot Snacks Cafe could win £10,000 as well as a luxury holiday in the Bahamas, plus styling and a personal shopping trip in London.
Express her personality
Rachel loves to incorporate various designs and colours of frames into her style pieces on her blog. She has been wearing glasses since she was four years old and now uses them to express her personality as well as to express her style and identity.
Bullied as a child for wearing glasses
Rachel says: ‘As a child I was bullied and picked on for wearing glasses and I used to smash up my glasses every week. They used to have a pair ready at the opticians every week for me.
‘I entered the competition because I love wearing glasses; I think they make people look unique and stand out from the crowd. Wearing glasses is about feeling yourself and being your best self, there is a style for every face, shape and personality.’
A chance to meet Kimberley Walsh
If triumphant in her category, Rachel has the chance to meet Girls Aloud singer and West End star Kimberley Walsh who launched the awards previously this year. One spectacle wearer is selected from each of the four age categories – 16-24; 25-39; 40-59 and 60+, plus a wildcard finalist who is voted for by the public on Facebook.
The awards will be held at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue on Tuesday 7 October. All age category winners will win a VIP makeover, and one overall winner will take home the ultimate title in specs wearing.
Winner of The Spectacle Wearer of the Year will receive £10,000, plus a week’s holiday for two in the Bahamas courtesy of the Grand Lucayan Beach & Golf Resort as well as a variety of specs to complement every ensemble.
