Charity put in to focus
Specsavers Havant have raised vital funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK throughout August with a month of fundraising activities and competitions.
Staff at Havant Specsavers hosted a cake sale in-store on Thursday 21 August, and a guess the number of lenses competition, as well as a kids colouring contest and a raffle throughout August in aid of the charity.
Big Fit Week
The store also hosted a Big Fit Week in August, which ran between Sunday 17 and Saturday 23 August. Staff invited customers to book an eye examination and try on contact lenses for a chance to win three months of free contact lenses and receive a £10 voucher towards prescription glasses.
Affects 820,000 people in the UK
Bill Vance, Specsavers Havant store director, says: ‘Dementia affects 820,000 people in the UK and around 23 million of the UK population have a close friend or family member with dementia. Dementia has a huge personal cost and it also costs the UK economy £23 billion a year, more than cancer and heart disease combined.
‘We want to raise as much money for the charity as possible and are hosting a number of activities with great prizes to giveaway, including designer prescription glasses for our guess the number of lenses contest. Our month of fundraising will be a great way to raise awareness of the fantastic work that the charity does.’
Alzheimer's Research UK is dedicated to funding scientific studies to find ways to treat, cure or prevent Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, Lewy Body disease and fronto-temporal dementia.
