90 year old customer named regional SWOTY finalist
Specsavers in Aldershot is delighted to have news in from Head Office. 90 year old customer, Pearl Stockham has been announced as a regional finalist in Specsavers annual search for its Spectacle Wearer of the Year and the team is thrilled for her.
Age is just a number!
Great grandmother Pearl is the finalist is the South East region’s 60+ age category and has won Specsavers vouchers worth £150 and a bottle of champagne. She now goes forward to the next round of judging that could see her become the overall Spectacle Wearer of the Year 2017 and win £10,000.
Pearl’s youthful looks and zest for life attracted the attention of staff at her local Specsavers store in Aldershot. Lucy Green, a student dispensing optician at the store fitted Pearl with a new style of glasses and suggested that she enter the competition. The rest, as they say, is history.
Pearl delighted to be nominated
Says Pearl: ‘Lucy challenged me to try a new style of frame and a purple hue, which is something I had never considered before. I have been wearing glasses since I was three years old and always favoured a round frame style. It’s been quite refreshing to try a new look after 87 years!
'To think I’m now a finalist in a modelling competition is quite astounding. I wondered what all those children who called me Froggy Four-eyes when I was little would say if they could see me now.’
Well done from the store
Pearl was invited to Specsavers in Aldershot this month to be awarded with her vouchers by Lucy Green and store director, Manish Soni. Says Manish: ‘Pearl has been a loyal Specsavers customer for over 30 years and we are delighted to see her become a regional semi-finalist.
'It goes to show that whatever your age, you can always try a new look and dazzle in the right pair of frames. We wish her all the best for the next stage of judging.’
What happens next
If Pearl triumphs in her age category of 60+, she could meet former Girls Aloud star, Nadine Coyle at the celeb-packed awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue on 10 October.
We are rooting for you, Pearl!
