Professional development

Over the last 30 years, nine students have been trained as fully qualified opticians at the store and six as qualified dispensing opticians. We continue to invest in local talent through our apprenticeship scheme.

Store director, Scott McGowan, said: ‘The apprenticeships are a great way to unlock the potential of young people in the area and kick-start successful careers, with the prospective of qualifying as dispensing opticians within five years.’

Specsavers’ year-long apprenticeship is open to anyone over the age of 16 and requires no previous optical experience. Long serving HR manager, Sam Corrie, recently visited Heathfield Community School to talk to students about the opportunities available to them at Specsavers.

Anniversary event

On Saturday 30 July, staff at the team marked the milestone anniversary by hosting a designer glasses competition and raffle for a shirt signed by the by Somerset County Cricket Club 1st team members.
